Opposition leader Yitzhak Herzog responded Monday to the moderate Arab countries' disengagement from Qatar by saying, "The Arab countries who exactly 50 years ago sought to eliminate and destroy Israel, are now disengaging from a country that finances terror against the Western world and against Israel in particular, and this is the time to show leadership and embark on a courageous regional move."
The leader of the Zionist Union faction said Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu's "disregard of the signs of peace in the region will be fateful and match Golda Meir's disregard for the signs of peace in Egypt in the years before the Yom Kippur War." Calling creation of a bloc to replace Netanyahu the only chance for peace and security, Herzog concluded, "The Zionist Union, under my leadership will support, from the opposition any move that will advance a regional arrangement and bring about renewed negotiations with the Palestinians."
