At the end of Sunday's last hearing in the appeal by soldier Elor Azariya of his 18-month sentence on a manslaughter conviction for killing a wounded terrorist, the justices turned to the parties and said that any outcome in the appeal would be problematic and suggested that the sides approach mediation.

As happened during the trial, the defense agreed and the prosecutor refused. The judges requested that the request be submitted to the Military Advocate General, who recently said there was no point because the gaps were too large. If mediation is not carried out, the decision on the appeals will be made within a few weeks.
