A 26-year old Jewish resident of  the Ukrainian town of Dnipro (formerly Dnieperpetrovsk) was seriously injured by an axe. His foot was saved during an operation and he is at present described as in "serious but stable condition."

The attack is not at present being viewed as an anti-Semitic incident. The attacker is known to be hot-tempered and has a past history of mental problems.

Israeli doctors are in contact with their Ukrainian counterparts treating the wounded man.
