The Shabak Israel Security Agency has disclosed that it detained six activists of the Islamic Movement - the Northern Branch for questioning at the end of March and the beginning of April, including the movement's acting director. In November 2015, the Minister of Defense declared the northern branch of the Islamic Movement to be an unlawful association and with the entry into force of the Anti-Terrorism Law in November 2016, the movement was labeled a terror group.

According to the findings of the ISA and police, the arrested activists acted to preserve and carry out the activity of the Fatah Tanzim faction, especially in Jerusalem, despite its status. They are suspected of coordinating and mediating with foreign funding funds connected to the Muslim Brotherhood movement. In the course of the investigation, two of the suspects were caught while transferring between them more than NIS 200,000 in cash. The investigation indicated that some of those involved in the forbidden activity pocketed significant amounts of money and used it for their personal benefit.
