Soccer players from the National League, ambassadors and town mayors participated Tuesday in a large event together with 800 Arab and Jewish, Palestinian and Israeli children.
The event, sponsored by the Peres Center for Peace and Innovation, was the World Peace Cup 2017, a special and festive tournament of peace, tolerance and mutual acceptance.
During the course of the event, Alona Barkat, the owner of the Hapoel Beersheva soccer club, received the Sports Ambassador of Peace award of the Peres Center as testimony to her role in promoting tolerance and coexistence in Israeli sport. Barkat also kicked off the first game of the tournament.
