In a meeting between Prime Minister Netanyahu and haredi faction representatives it was agreed that legislation would be initiated granting Interior Minister Deri authorization to enforce the Hours of Work and Rest Law.
The Prime Minister also agreed to express the government's view that a new Supreme Court hearing should be held in a broader forum to discuss the issue of opening stores in Tel Aviv on Shabbat.
It is doubtful whether legislation would pass in the Knesset as a number of coalition parties have expressed their opposition to Shabbat legislation, including Defense Minister Liberman and members of the Kulanu party.
