Interior Minister Gilad Erdan visited the Metzada prison services unit Thursday. The unit specializes in dealing with emergency situations which can develop in prisons. Erdan praised the unit's professionalism and said it is one of the best operational units in Israel.
Erdan added that the hunger strike by terrorist prisoners began with 1300 prisoners and today the number of hunger strikers has dropped to 850.
Erdan said that "the hunger strike is an attempt to place pressure on Israel and we must ensure that all the means to deal with the strike and the different scenarios which may develop will be fully prepared. My impression is that Metzada is prepared for the challenges facing it."
