Deputy Foreign Minister Tzipi Hotovely said on Monday that Israel is "currently struggling for every country that will not lend a hand to some distortion of history on Tuesday, when the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization votes on a resolution aimed at severing ties between the State of Israel and Jerusalem. Speaking in a Hebrew video, she said, "We have become used to the concept of 'fake news'. Well, welcome to 'fake history'."

Hotovely said that if UNESCO choses to ignore Israel's 3,000-year history in Jerusalem, reflected in the Israel Prize to be awarded to the Ir David project near Jerusalem's Old City, "at the end of the day it will harm the organization itself. The organization itself will lose its credibility and ultimately its relevance as well."
