The Tel Aviv municipality has placed a lien on the Tel Aviv Great Synagogue due to its debts to the municipality. The president of the synagogue, Shlomo Fibko, told his friends that "I am forced to close the doors of the Great Synagogue. The municipality has placed a lien on my bank account and I have no option but to close the synagogue."
The municipality responded by saying that the synagogue does not need to pay property tax except for the period when it conducted private events and received money from them.
