'$141 million paid to survivors in Israel last year'

The Claims Conference says that $141 million were paid in direct compensation payments to Holocaust survivors in Israel in 2016. In addition, $111 million were allocated for social welfare services that year.

The largest concentration of Holocaust victims in the world resides in Israel, comprising one-third of all elderly population.

"The Claims Conference works closely with the Israeli government and national agencies to distribute compensation payments, provide information about available programs and benefits, and support institutions and organizations that care for elderly Shoah victims," it said in a statement.

"Jews who fled the Nazis into the Soviet Union may receive one-time payments from the Claims Conference. Jews who survived under Nazi occupation in camps, ghettos or in hiding may receive pension payments. Certain survivors who were children may receive a payment from the Child Survivor Fund."
