The Jerusalem Municipality will start building 1000 new classrooms all over Jerusalem at an estimated cost of 1 billion NIS.

Over the years a deficit of thousands of classrooms has emerged in Jerusalem due to lack of government funding and ignoring the natural growth in the capital of approximately 186 classes a year in an educational system serving 300,000 pupils.

The city has calculated that 3,800 classes are lacking, requiring a 5 billion NIS investment to close the shortfall.

The first stage of addressing this shortage has been agreed between the municipality and the interior ministry, with the financial backing of Leumi bank and other financial institutions serving to build the 1000 classrooms.
