The European Judo championship is taking place at present in Poland. At the same time the World Judo Federation announced that the next championship will take place in Israel.
Two Israeli judoka, Yarden Jerbi and Ori Sasson, won bronze medals at the Olympics in Rio de Janeiro in summer 2016 and this made Israel a leading candidate to host the next championships.
Culture and Sport Minister Miri Regev welcomed the decision and said that this is a "badge of honor for Israeli sport and a proof of its elevated status and the achievements of Israeli judo worldwide and not just in Israel."
