Against the background of fear of a mass desecration of the Jewish Sabbath on the coming Lag Baomer, the Bnei Akiva religious youth movement has published a new petition calling on Minister of Education Naftali Bennett to postpone the Lag Baomer school holiday by one day to Monday.
This year the eve of Lag Baomer is on Saturday night, when tens of thousands are expected to light bonfires all over the country, and a significant part of them are public school students who will mark the observance into the night because there is no school the next day. It is estimated that some of the preparations and bonfire lighting will begin before the Sabbath because of the relatively late hour that it ends.
