Shai: "Ezrat Israel" closure harms the Reform movement

Chairman Nachman Shai of the Knesset Lobby for Strengthening the Jewish People has sent a letter to Minister of Construction Yoav Galant, in which he protested the closure of the "Ezrat Israel" area at the Western Wall, which was allocated by the government for the purpose of maintaining mixed-gender egalitarian minyanim.

Shai wrote, "This act is a grave blow to our relations with the various religious streams in Israel and the Diaspora. For many Jewish communities, this is the only place where they can pray and celebrate as they do." He noted, "The government has had many months to settle the responsibility and the handling of 'Ezerat Yisrael'. This was not done and caused great disappointment among the Conservative and Reform streams. It is the duty of Israel, the state of the Jewish people, to ensure the fundamental and fundamental right of Jews to realize their faith and that this right will be preserved in any organizational change."
