Extensive work has begun to strengthen the security components and upgrade the infrastructure at the Qalandiya and Rachel (Crossing 300) crossings, the two largest crossings in the Jerusalem envelope area at a cost of tens of millions of shekels. The upgrade is part of a broad plan to renovate and improve the crossings throughout Judea and Samaria at a total cost of NIS 300 million.
The works includes the addition of pedestrian entry sleeves from Judea and Samaria, as well as the addition of security identification and inspection posts. Two advanced technological means of inspection will be deployed at both crossings. In addition, considerable resources will be invested in improving the conditions of the pedestrian crossings.
