The heads of the Otzma Yehudit (Jewish Power) organization have submitted a petition to the High Court of Justice demanding the annulment of the plea bargain with former member of Knesset Bassel Ghattas and asking the court to issue an interim order prohibiting the presentation of the arrangement until the petition is heard.
Under the deal, the Joint Arab List MK resigned from the Knesset and will serve a two-year sentence for passing cellular phones and messages to security prisoners and the original terrorism clause will be converted to an article that does not speak of an offense that harms state security. Petitioners Michael Ben-Ari, Itamar Ben-Gvir, Baruch Marzel and Benzi Gopstein claim "The sentence that the State Prosecutor's Office is settling for is only two years in prison - while the original indictment included counts that carry dozens of mandatory years in prison."
