The National Union faction in the Jewish Home party has sent a letter to the Tzohar rabbinical organization in which it attacks the Hotel Association's initiative to switch from the Chief Rabbinate's kashrut certification to that of Tzohar. The letter says "Kashrut is not a private matter of one association or another. Citizens of the state are consumers of kashrut and not the tycoons, hotel owners. Kashrut is part of the character of the state of Israel, and therefore is managed and supervised by the Chief Rabbinate. Even a good Badatz [religious-court] hechsher is not a substitute for the rabbinate kashrut."

The party claimed further, "If it turns out the Tzohar organization supports this initiative, It's seven times worse. This is a serious blow to the standing of the Chief Rabbinate. The party has contacted Tzohar and waiting for the organization's response." It concluded, "The move will cause many religious people who are interested in governmental regulated kashrut to stay away from hotels."
