Former director-general Dan Harel of the Defense Ministry was recently questioned by police regarding Israel's purchase of submarines from a German company represented by an attorney for Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu, according to Channel 10 Television.
Members of the ministry's legal staff were also questioned. In an exchange of emails with Harel, Defense Ministry Legal Advisor Ahaz Ben Ari wondered why the contract for the vessels was not put out to an international bid.
