Survivors of the Holocaust and their descendants are lighting Hanukkah menorahs associated with the Holocaust period as part of "The Shoah and Jewish Identity: Challenges in Jewish Education", an international conference for Jewish educators which runs through Thursday at the Yad Vashem Holocaust memorial institution in Jerusalem.

Kicking off the conference, Monday evening, former chief rabbi of Israel Yisrael Meir Lau, whose mother was from Krakow, Poland, will light the "Krakow Menorah". On Tuesday, a famous menorah from Kiel, Germany will be lit by the grandson of its owner, the last rabbi of the city before he fled in 1933. Wednesday night will see 38 relatives light a menorah that was made out of plywood by an inmate of Holland's Westerbork detention camp. All the Hanukkiot are part of a Yad Vashem collection.
