A stone bowl from the Hasmonean period (about 140-116 BCE) with the rare Hebrew inscription "Horcanus" (Hyrcanus in English) has been found in an archaeological dig of the Antiquities Authority in the Giv'ati parking lot of the City of David National Park surrounding the walls of the Old City of Jerusalem.

Hyrcanus was a widespread name at the time and was used by two leaders of the Hasmonean dynasty, associated with the story of Hanukkah.
