Marwan Barghouti, serving five life sentences for his role in the terror deaths of Israelis, was the top vote getter in balloting for the Fatah central committee and the revolutionary council, which concluded Saturday evening, according to nrg.
Barghouti was named on 930 of 1,000 of the ballots. Coming within about a hundred votes of topping him was Jibril Rajoub, former head of preventative security, who now heads the PA's Football Association. The results are seen as votes of support for Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas. A number of prominent names were elected. Among those left out was former prime minister and negotiator Nabil Shaath, who led the PA's international efforts against Israel.
