Deputy Defense Minister Eli Ben-Dahan said, Sunday, that he was saddened to hear of the passing of former French Chief Rabbi Yoseph Haim Sitruk.

Rabbi Ben-Dahan said, "I got to know him and appreciate him when he was chief rabbi of the city of Marseille, where his many virtues were revealed: a pleasant disposition, making things bright with the light of loving all people. Since his term as Marseille's chief rabbi, Rabbi Sitruk continued his upward path and added a lot of Torah and holiness among French Jews. This is a great loss to French Jews because the rabbi served them as someone to lean on and a spiritual guide."
