The rate of breast cancer in Israel is slightly higher than the average in the developed countries of the Office for Economic Coordination and Development, according to figures published on Monday by the Health Ministry and the Israel Cancer Society ahead of October's observance of Cancer Awareness Month.
The rate of cure was significantly higher. Of the 5,207 new cases of invasive and focused breast cancer, 78 percent of the women were over the age of 50.
