The Central Bureau of Statistics today published data on the Muslim population of Israel, showing a decline in the annual growth rate from 3.8% in 2000 to 2.4% in 2015.
At the end of 2015, the Muslim population of Israel was 1.488 million, or about 18% of all Israeli residents. This is an increase of approximately 34.2 thousand compared to the end of 2014.
Jerusalem has the largest concentration of Muslim residents, with 311 thousand. This is 20.9% of the total Muslim population of Israel and 35.9% of the city's residents.
In 2015, the fertility rate (average number of children a woman is expected to bear during her lifetime) stood at 3.3 children per woman, after falling from 4.7 children per woman in 2000.
About 35% of households headed by a Muslim have 6 or more children, compared to 9% of households headed by a Jew.
