President Abdel Fattah As-Sisi of Egypt and King Abdullah II of Jordan called, Wednesday for what Jordan's official Petra Jordan News Agency called "breaking the deadlock in peacemaking and launching serious negotiations that bring about an independent Palestinian state on pre-1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital."

Petra reported, Thursday, that the two leaders also commended moves by Chairman Mahmoud Abbas of the Palestinian Authority to achieve reconciliation between his Fatah faction and Hamas. During their meeting in Caior, As-Sisi commended Jordan's role and efforts in defending Muslim and Arab causes and protecting Muslim and Christian shrines in Jerusalem. The two leaders also promoted what they called efforts against extremism which distorts the image of Islam.
