As violence escalates in the Phillipines' war on drugs, prisons are shutting their doors, as the overflowing buildings simply have no more room. The Metro Manila Jail, built to hold 800 people, now houses 4,024.
Phillipines president Rodrigo Duterte promised, during his inauguration, protection for anyone who killed a drug user or dealer "vigilante-style." As people continue to be cornered and slaughtered in the streets, many guilty of drug-related offenses have opted to turn themselves in to authorities, rather than risk public wrath.
