The 29th annual Klezmer Jewish music festival got underway in the central Galilee city of Tzfat (Safed), Monday evening. Thousands of people were in attendance and thousands more are expected during the festival's remaining two evenings.
A highlight of the opening was the playing of "Yiddishe Mama" by international artist Eyal Shiloach on a violin owned by First Sergeant Oz Mendelovich, who was killed during the fighting in Gaza in 2014. Shiloach's performance was preceded by a video of Mendelovich playing the same piece three months before he fell.
