The Nation of Israel began marking the fast of Tisha B'Av at sunset Saturday evening (Motzei Shabbat).
The fast on the ninth day of the Month of Av commemorates tragic events in the nation's history that occurred on this date. These include the destruction of both Temples, the destruction of the city of Beitar in the Bat Kochba Revolt in the second century CE, and the Expulsion from Spain.
The fast ends Sunday at 7:52 PM.
