August's show of shooting stars, the Perseids, will be even more spectacular this year, with an expected 200 visible per hour on the peak night.
This year, Jupiter’s gravity has moved the 1079, 1479, and 1862 Perseids meteorite streams closer to Earth. From the night of August 9 through the night of August 15, an unusually high number of shooting stars will be visible in the night sky. On peak night, August 11-12, more than 200 shooting stars are expected to be seen per hour.
People who live in the northern hemisphere should look to the north-east quadrant of the sky for the light show.
