Chairman Mahmoud Abbas of the Palestinian Authority has told Sudanese television that there will be a new round of talks in the coming weeks between his Fatah faction and Hamas about general elections for president and parliament in the PA and about a unity government.
The two sides have come close to reconciliation from the split highlighted by Hamas's takeover of Gaza following fighting in 2007. Abbas said, "Without unity, there won't be a Palestinian state."
