Herzl Kabalo, who heads the firearm licensing branch of the Public Safety Ministry, said, Monday, that the ministry is discussing ways to ease restrictions on guns in light of the wave of terror that started last fall. Addressing a meeting of the Knesset Lobby for Shaping Gun-Carrying Policy in Israel, he said one of the problems is the lack of staff to handle applications.
Lobby Chairman Amir Ohana said a decision had to be reached in principle. Then lawmakers would help with administrative problems. He said self defense was a natural law in every human society. The point was illustrated by the recent use of bare hands, knives, axes and a truck. In spite of isolated incidents in Israel, he said, "One doesn't stop an attack with a selfie stick or a guitar."
