Education Minister Naftali Bennett criticized yesterday the Rabbinical High Court's ruling against a convert of Rabbi Haskel Lookstein:
"The Rabbinical Court's refusal to recognize the conversion of Rabbi Lookstein is a disgrace of God's name and a threat to the future of the Jewish People.
"We are in the midst of a fight for the Jewish identity of millions of Jews around the world. For dozens of years Rabbi Lookstein has stood on the front-lines, lovingly connecting people to Jewish tradition. Instead of listening to the Chief Rabbis, who acknowledged and accepted Rabbi Lookstein and his work, the Rabbinical Court disgraced them...
"The Rabbinate must publish, without delay, criteria for the recognition of rabbis whose conversions it accepts, so that decisions about the future of the Jewish people are done in a thoughtful, transparent and responsible manner."
