The Great Rabbinical Court recently sentenced a haredi man to five years in prison after he consistently refused to give his wife a Jewish writ of divorce, despite a number of steps to pressure him to do so. Those steps included revocation of his passport and closing of his bank account.
The court gave the man ten days to change his mind and grant the divorce.
