Justice Minister Ayelet Shaked responded to European Union criticism of the new funding-transparency law for non-government organizations by saying, "There is nothing in this law that is undemocratic." Interviewed by Israel Defense Forces Radio, she added, "This is a law which only talks about transparency."

The law requires NGOs to publicize the extent of funding they receive from foreign political entities. Shaked told the station, "There are many laws in the European Union that talk about transparency." Referring to the criticism, she said, "I don't know who's leading this and who's behind the announcement. When I met with other justice ministers from the Union, the tone was different."
