The Knesset Interior Committee has approved for final reading a bill by Member of Knesset Nava Boker (Likud) to increase the penalty for abusing the Israeli flag.
Under the measure, conviction for abuse of the flag could carry prison time of up to three years, as is the case for abusing the flag of a friendly country. The current limit for abusing an Israeli flag is a year. The bill calls for a maximum fine of 58,400 shekels
