Interior minister Theresa May and pro-Brexit rival Andrea Leadsom were chosen by ballot on Thursday to be the two candidates for Britain's next prime minister. In wake of David Cameron's resignation, the winning candidate will have to lead the country out of the European Union.
Conservatives across the country will now vote to decide whether May or Leadsom will become prime minister.
Britain hasn't had a female prime minister since Margaret Thatcher was forced from office in 1990.
The contest will be decided by September 9.
