The Tzohar rabbinical organization has applauded the Chief Rabbinate for its decision to permit women to opt to immerse in a mikveh (ritual bath) without an attendant present, should they so wish.

"Tzohar salutes the Chief Rabbinate on the decision to prevent coercion of those women who choose to immerse in the mikvah without the presence of an attendant," a statement from the organization read. "This decision will ensure that countless women can firmly embrace the traditional mitzvah of immersion in the mikvah.

"We view this as a further important step forward in promoting Jewish practice and halacha in Israel in an atmosphere of love and acceptance rather than coercion."
