France is encouraging cities to ban alcohol around Euro 2016 soccer matches, BBC reports.
Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve warned, "I have asked for all necessary measures to be taken to prohibit the sale, consumption and transport of alcoholic drinks in sensitive areas on match days and the day before, and on days when fan zones are open."
The restrictions would apply to all public venues plus stores.
The call comes in response to fighting between police and fans that has swept Marseille for the past three days. Russian fans reportedly attacked English fans after the two countries played to a draw on Saturday, and Uefa is threatening to kick both teams out of the tournament unless the violence ends.
