Histadrut labor federation Chairman Avi Nissenkorn responded on Sunday to reports of shortening the work week.

“The Histadrut is the first to support the idea to shorten the work week, since, according to data from the OECD, Israeli workers work more hours than employees in most western countries. The Israeli employee works 43 hours per week according to the law, which adversely affects leisure time, efficiency and output. Despite this, most developed countries only have a 40-hour work week.”

According to Nissenkorn, “Whoever thinks that the solution is to place the burden on the workers is mistaken and misleading. Shortening the work week must be done responsibly, taking the workers into consideration and so the only solution is to reduce work hours. The Histadrut staunchly opposes lengthening work days in Israel.”
