The results of the Environmental Protection Ministry's Clean Beach Index show a decline in the number of clean beaches in 2016 compared to last year.
According to the most recent study, only 34 percent of Israel's beaches are "very clean," compared with 61 percent that received the same rating in 2015.
The timing of the index is matched to the opening of the bathing season in Israel.
