The UK's new polar research ship will not be called Boaty McBoatface, despite the results of a popular online poll. Instead, it will be named for the naturalist and TV personality Sir David Attenborough, in honor of his 90th birthday.

Science Minister Jo Johnson says that the choice recognizes Attenborough's "legacy in British broadcasting."

Attenborough says that he is "truly honored."

Despite this, one of the ship's remote vehicles will be called Boaty.
