A new book recently launched in the US reveals that during Hillary Clinton’s first visit to Jerusalem as Secretary of State in 2009, she pressured former Israeli Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni to accept Prime Minister Netanyahu’s offer and join a unity government, Haaretz reports.
The reports indicate that the book’s author, Mark Landler, wrote that Clinton wanted Livni to join a unity government with Netanyahu in order to prevent the rise of a rightwing coalition that would clash with the American government. The book further revealed that Livni denied Clinton’s request, explaining that the Likud would not accept her demands.
