Fewer than ten Cambodian Royal Turtles can still be found in the wild, Associated Press reports.

According to the Wildlife Conservation Society, they are primarily threatened by sand dredging and illegal logging, and are in danger of soon disappearing completely.

The Royal Turtle, also known as the Southern River terrapin, received its name because, traditionally, only the Cambodian royal family was permitted to eat its eggs. It is now among the 25 most endangered tortoises and freshwater turtles in the world.
