Anders Behring Breivik, the Norwegian man who killed dozens of people in July 2011, has partially succeeded in his human rights appeal.
The Norwegian court agreed that some of his conditions constitute "inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment." Judge Helen Andenaes Sekulic added that the right to fair treatment "represents a fundamental value in a democratic society," which even applies to "terrorists and killers."
In particular, Breivik complained about being placed in solitary confinement, strip searches, the allegedly excessive use of handcuffs, and night-time wakings.
