The Supreme Court rejected an appeal and request of an injunction against the Jerusalem Municipality’s decision to enforce the law and close convenience stores currently open on the Sabbath.

Local business owners and activists in favor of reducing retail trade in Israel on the Sabbath responded to the court ruling and said that “The Supreme Court’s decision serves as a victory for works and small businesses forced to work on the Sabbath, whose voices are not heard.”

“The court’s decision shut the door that tycoons attempted to open. This is a call to the government to separate commercial trade from culture and leisure on the weekly day of rest.”
