Roughly 20 thousand Holocaust survivors did not take advantage of stipends and pensions that were rightfully theirs, worth a total of 100 million shekels, findings made public by the Ministry of Welfare and Social Affairs reveal.

Welfare Minister Haim Katz said at a press conference that “The findings clearly reflect how we have all failed,” and claimed that “The clerks’ inflexibility and the plethora of bodies handing the matter have led to a situation where survivors are going hungry, suffer from cold and a lack of attention.” He added that according to a new plan recently formulated, some survivors will be granted electricity fee discounts, hours of aid, and more.
