The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) is considering reversing its ban on athletes who tested positive for the drug meldonium, Reuters reports.

Meldonium was only outlawed on January 1, and the WADA says it does not know how long it would take for the drug to leave the body. As a result, athletes who tested positive before March 1 may be permitted to participate in this summer's Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.

The highest-profile athlete to have been caught with meldonium in her system was tennis star Maria Sharapova. Another 39 Russian athletes were also blacklisted over their use.
