Iran has warned that removing Syrian dictator Bashar al-Assad from power would be a "red line," Associated Press reports.

Ali Akbar Velayati, a senior foreign policy adviser to Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, told state television that "Iran believes that the government of Bashar al-Assad should remain in power until the end of the presidency term."

Velayati emphasized that the Syrian people are the only ones who should determine the country's future.
