An Iranian official has suggested the option of a prisoner exchange with the US, Associated Press reports.

The swap would likely involve the Islamic Republic releasing Siamak Namazi, a dual US-Iranian citizenship who were convicted of "cooperation with the hostile government of the United States," and his father Baquer, whose alleged crimes have not been announced. In exchange, the US would return an Iranian consultant to the United Nations whom it has arrested.

Gholam Hossein Mohseni Ejehi, a spokesperson for the Iranian judiciary, says that he "heard words from here and there though nothing has been officially conveyed to the judiciary."
