A man in the US state of Connecticut has apologized for shooting a rifle at a nearby mosque in November, the Hartford Courant reports.

The man, Ted Hakey Jr., offered his apology during a symposium at the Baitul Aman Mosque in Meriden, Connecticut, yesterday (Saturday). Hakey explained that he opened fire out of "fear" following the ISIS attacks in Paris.

He has already plead guilty to a hate crime and damaging religious property. He will be sentenced next month.

No one was inside the mosque when he opened fire.
